Lani Li (she/her)

Hi, I'm Lani, a person who loves to read and create children's picture books! My BA was in Fine Art Education. During my studies, I realised that there was a strong link between art and children's education. This is why I came to Cambridge School of Art to study Children's Book Illustration.

I get a lot of inspiration from my childhood memories. I used to have some doubts and curious opinions about the world when I was younger. These interesting memories become the basis of my story development and help me to think about the themes and main content of picture books from a child's point of view. I like to experiment with a variety of mediums when creating my work, in order to match different storytelling styles. I enjoy drawing inspiration from hand-drawn textures and applying them digitally to complete the illustrations.

Always There Moon

This project is about a young wolf who overcomes his fear of the darkness because he knows that the moon is an eternal presence.

The Changes

For a little child, a mum's pregnancy can be a source of concern. "Will life change?" "Will mummy still love me as much as she did?" In this project, I intended to express the central theme of “changes are not terrible”.

Secret Love

This project is about a seagull with a secret love for a punter. It is a sequential illustration of the seagull's silent observation of its crush. The whole story is dominated by grey and blue tones, to convey a light atmosphere of a secret love that ends in sadness.
