Hi! I'm Mika – known professionally as Mikatori - and I'm an illustrator originally from the Netherlands, now based in Cambridgeshire.

I love observing animals and people whilst they go about their lives and am always looking for their emotions and interactions with each other. I'm in awe with the natural world and, coming from an anthropology background, am fascinated by how we as humans are part of it. I like to dig deep into any topic that has my interest, and enjoy non-fiction work just as much as telling stories. 

Most of my work starts in my sketchbook, a place where my mind can become quiet whilst I try to record what I see around me. To make artwork I use hand-printed textures, gouache and line drawings that I collage together digitally, and then often print in riso. I love working in a few separate colour layers to build varied yet coherent palettes.
