Yi-Shan Hsiao (she/her)

Hello, I am Yi-Shan, a Taiwanese illustrator and visual designer based in Cambridge. Like many others, I enjoyed drawing in my early years, which inspired me to pursue my passion, transitioning from graphic design in high school to studying illustration for my MA at the Cambridge School of Art. My goal is to become a professional storyteller and creator to convey meaningful messages to the world.

I enjoy working with mixed media, which not only allows me to immerse myself in the flow of experimentation but also fosters a deeper connection with my artwork. I especially love concealing metaphoric messages and applying surreal effects to create an open imaginative space for readers, inviting them into my world.

People

A gentle story about human diversity that intertwines with the natural environment and organic objects, conveying a subtle message that aims to embrace differences and improve empathy among people.

The elephant

This is a wordless picture book that explores the theme of stress and pressure faced by a clown during his performance.

Grow

Inspired by the scene outside my window, I used the form of a concertina to record the growth process between the sunflower and the caterpillar, aiming to bring life and vividness to the world.
