I was born and raised in Beijing, China. After completing my first degree in oil painting, I moved to London. During my ten years there, I completed two masters degrees and worked as a graphic designer. I fully embrace the multicultural environment in London and am fascinated by the people I have met here, to the point where diversity and equality have become my main focus – understanding where we come from and learning about other cultures. Recent political events have prompted many of us to rethink who we are and how we behave in this world, and I see diversity as an increasingly important feature of children’s literature. I regard children as my peers, and their way of seeing and living is a constant reminder and inspiration. Through my books, I want them to experience a wide range of information and views, so that one day they will come up with their own opinions about – and solutions for – the world around them.
