As a student of BA Illustration and Animation at the Manchester School of Art, I was encouraged to explore the possibilities of both disciplines. Whether I worked on animation frames or pages for a book, sequential imagery has been an essential component of my practice. During my time on the course, children’s books always felt the natural direction for my future work. After graduating in 2014, I was delighted to accept a place on the Children’s Book Illustration MA at Cambridge School of Art. Children’s books have always captivated me and after studying them from the perspective of a student they have become more and more fascinating. Over the length of the course I’ve enjoyed working in a variety of different ways, incorporating loose pencil and pen drawings, watercolour and ink washes, collaged digitally to create final imagery. Themes in my work are deeply rooted in folk tales and myths - a wealth of material that I’m positive will inspire new characters and stories well into the future.
