Heidi Griffiths
(She/Her)
Before undertaking the MA, Heidi was a self-taught illustrator who illustrated several children’s books. However, after completing her fourth book, she began to feel disconnected from her creative process. The MA provided space to experiment, reflect, and develop a visual voice that feels more authentically her own.
Her practice is rooted in play and material exploration, with a particular love of mixed media and the contrast it creates. Heidi’s approach is spontaneous and energetic, guided by intuition and curiosity.
She is drawn to creating atmosphere and emotion, aiming to evoke a strong sense of feeling within her work. Projects often begin with observation in her sketchbook, blending the everyday with elements of magic and wonder inspired by childhood. Through a playful approach to storytelling, Heidi combines reality and fantasy, with recurring themes of escape, other worlds, and connection, hoping her work brings a little much-needed magic into everyday life.
Heidi was shortlisted in the ‘Orange beak/ Shirley Hughes Sketchbook Awards 2025’
