Lucy Rose Turner

(She/Her)

Lucy is an illustrator from the seaside city of Portsmouth, UK.

Lucy graduated with a BA in Illustration from Southampton Solent University before joining the MA in Children’s Book Illustration. She loves to illustrate expressive and unique characters, capturing their emotions, relationships and playful interactions within an exciting environment.

Lucy’s inspiration to create stories and characters that feature and highlight disability comes from her relationship with her older sister Catherine, who has Down Syndrome. She wrote and illustrated three picturebooks that all centre around different disabilities, ranging from narratives depicting Down Syndrome and narratives that simply include disabled characters as the protagonist.

Moving forward in her work she hopes to explore and create more stories and characters that focus on diversity and inclusivity and seeing more authentic portrayals and representation of disabled people in picturebooks.
