Oryn Redford
(She/her)
Oryn is a Scottish illustrator and painter with a BA in animation from Duncan of Jordanstone before moving to Cambridge to do this MA.
Her process is focused around play, entering an expressive state to create an inviting atmosphere with every piece having a feeling of sincerity to it. It is the combination of expressing her emotions and observational drawings that grounds her work in a way that people can connect with. Oryn predominantly works in acrylic gouache, giving her work a vibrancy and control over opacity. She expresses herself with big brushes through loose and fast brush strokes. Oryn is interested in light and how it can effect an image and bring them to life.
She is heavily inspired by childhood memories and feelings, as well as the Scottish Highlands that she grew up in. Her work often takes on themes of loneliness, friendship and folklore. Her goal is for her art to evoke a feeling of cosiness and comfort as well as a sense of wonder.
