paula heister (she/her)

Hello! I’m Paula, a doctor-turned-illustrator from Germany.

Before moving to Cambridge, I trained as a scientist and worked as a junior doctor in London. When I realised that my lab-books were full of drawings and stories, I knew that my childhood dream of making children’s books was never going to disappear. I enrolled on the MA, and have been happily hopping between art and science ever since.

During the course, I fell in love with printmaking. I enjoy creating bold shapes in screen-print and using everyday objects, stencils and paper stamps to make textures. My aim is to tell stories with a strong sense of place and a relatable lead character, and I always enjoy an interactive or novelty element in a book.

I still love science, and when I’m not busy writing and illustrating, I teach medicine at Cambridge. I am excited to merge my skillsets to create unusual science books.
