Yanyan Yu
(She/Her)
Yanyan is an illustrator, animator, and teddy bear lover from Chengdu, China.
She studied BFA Illustration at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and MA Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.
She has a soft spot for bright, exciting colours, and her mind is always buzzing with curious little ideas. She enjoys wandering along the edge where fantasy and reality overlap, telling everyday stories from imagined worlds and discovering moments of wonder hidden within ordinary life. Her work often reflects on identity, gently inviting both herself and her readers to explore and embrace who they are. She is especially drawn to collage art and pop-up books as a way to create playful and interactive worlds.

As Free As A Slug
This story follows a slug who worries about not having a shell like a snail. She imagines carrying all kinds of interesting things, then realises she can also carry nothing at all, and be as free as a slug.
Lydia and Lily
This is a story about self and ways of living. Twin sisters Lydia and Lily, one outgoing and one introverted, step into each other’s lives for a while. Through experiencing each other’s ways of living, they come to understand one another, yet choose to stay true to their own lives.
Doors
This little story is about many different doors. Some are ordinary, some are curious, each leading to different worlds, experiences, and small adventures. But at the end of the journey, the protagonist’s favourite door is the warm, familiar door of home.
